At the start of each New Year I try to spend some time looking back over the one just past, while planning for the next. 2009 was an exciting year for us at Lucid Media as we took on new clients, projects and roles, allowing us to further bolster our craft. We are continually learning, as the company grows both numerically and technically, while remaining current and client focused. We all feel so very blessed to be able to do what we love. Thank you for journeying with us, we look forward to the opportunities the New Year brings as we strive to push the envelope further.
Upcoming… We are currently developing a completely new Lucid Media web site. It’s kind of like the shoe maker’s son in the fact that we have been so busy, our present site has been neglected. We plan to launch it for the next quarter but here is a link to view a few of our more recent projects.
Cheers,

4D for 3D
For some time now we have been experimenting with 3D illustration and animation, in a pseudo* 3D environment (*technically 2.5D). Our goal for 2009 was to finally make the jump to a true 3D environment, and I am thrilled to say we are now producing most of our 3D graphics and animations using Maxon’s Cinema 4D software. The learning curve is steep but our capabilities have seriously increased. This allows us to animate logos and text, model 3D objects and produce killer custom animations. We are super excited about this step and have posted a very simple sample to illustrate some of what we now offer. Much more to come… |

Our web development process
The most important stage of the development process is the planning. This is when we get together to better understand your organization, and discuss the needs and direction of your new site. And quite honestly the preparation you bring to the table, such as finding online references of things you like and don’t like, can make all the difference. Now the depth and detail of each stage will vary, depending on the scale of the project, but the flow remains the same. After agreeing upon a scope, function and budget, we develop a web map and initial design to be tweaked as necessary. Once these have been approved, we start building and posting our progress on our test server for you to follow along with. After the site has been populated with content, and all the bugs worked out, we flip the switch to the live server, for the world to view. Now this sounds like a fairly simple process, however, it does involve a lot of hard work. But it’s what we do, and we are here at every step allowing for a smooth, seamless and strategic site development.

Social Media
The first mistake is to ignore it, the second mistake is to place too much importance on it. For most businesses, especially when dealing with the end user, Facebook, RSS feeds, newsletters and yes even Twitter, can play an important role in engaging customers, keeping in contact, networking to their network and building brand awareness and loyalty. Your website needs to be, and do, all that it can, and incorporating social media in most cases is now a must.
